5ohm is pleased to announce The Jazz Subversives’ GroundSwell, the music accompaniment to the art project by Sacramento artist Micah Crandall-Bear and Seattle photographer and musician John Johnson. This marks the second release for The Jazz Subversives since 2010’s Insomniak. Returning on the record are Johnson and Czech keyboard experimentalist Rafeas Kamen, who take their sound in a new direction.
“Being on both sides of the art form gave me unique perspective into its deeper meaning,” said Johnson. “I wanted to push in new boundaries that incorporated musical concepts of which we are already familiar with soundscapes and sound design that take the user to unknown new territory. That’s the vision of the visual aspect of the project as well.”
There are 14 total tracks that weigh in at over an hour and a half of music. The music features elements of jazz, rock, hip hop, orchestral and world music. There are also a few bonus tracks available for download.
GroundSwell will be release as download only through 5ohm.com.
